Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens

Subtropical England Drool

Ok, Ok, Ill admit we got lucky with the weather. A beautiful find and minutes away from the coast. You could easily spend a few hours walking around the gardens. There is a great view of the coast up a small green hill and a delightful cafe to boot. Well worth the money.

University of Leicester Botanic Garden

Giant Allium Drool

My husband has a conference so like being the good little wife I've tagged along so he has a breakfast, lunch and dinner companion (eating alone is rubbish). But what to do? Family and friends will confirm my phenomenal abilities to waste time, so although this isn't a major problem I feel this is an opportunity to see something.  Lo and behold to my amazement when I stumbled onto this small Leciestershire Paradise.

Another Secret Gem

Food Drool

So I'm not a Foodie but I have a pretty sweet tooth.  Another gem in Leicester I stumbled upon was the "The Tiny Bakery".  It was so good I took the courtesy of taking a photo of this half eaten brownie. If you pop to the Gardens, take the extra 10 mins to drive here to satisfy your sweet spot.

Royal Greenhouses of Laeken

Royal Drool

I was super excited when I realized a surprise 70th birthday trip I was organizing for my Papa happened to coincide with the slim annual opening of the Royal Greenhouses of Laeken. I marched everyone up a hill on a gloriously sunny day for this visual stunner. I wasn't dissapointed. Its the stuff Pinterest is made of and has inspired some glorious design goals for the future.

Villa Cibrone - The Gardens

Italian Drool

"The Villa’s gardens are breathtakingly beautiful and contain a wealth “of the most beautiful flowers imaginable”. They were largely redesigned at the start of the 20th century, with the valuable input of the English gardener Vita Sackville-West. They are considered among the most important examples of the English landscape and botany culture in the South of Europe"

“The most beautiful sight that I have ever seen in the world is the panoramic view from Villa Cimbrone on a bright winter’s day, when the sky and the sea are so vividly blue that it is not possible to distinguish them from each other”

Gore Vidal

We visited the gardens on a rather chilly March day (Beast of the East time) but the gardens were breathtakingly beautiful even at that time of year.  The best view by far is the Infinity Terrace overlooking the stunning turquoise blues of the Amalfi Coastline waters - you just want to dive straight in.

Holland Park Kyoto Garden

Japanese Drool

A popular spot amongst Londoners. The Japanese styled garden at Holland Park is a little zen heaven. It is usually quite busy at weekends so for its best viewings try early morning or early evening where possible. It looks great in any season - photos below are from both summer and autumn. Loving the peacocks too!

Opening times: Free. All year. Daily. Open dawn to dusk.
